Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®(MDT) also known as the McKenzie Method is a treatment technique backed by over 50 years of proven research utilized by Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, and Physiotherapists around the world. Musculoskeletal pain is mechanical in nature, meaning it is dependent upon movements and positions with respect to the human body. An MDT assessment will tell the patient what movements and positions will increase their pain and make them worse, as well as what movements and exercises will decrease their symptoms and begin the rehabilitative process. MDT distinguishes between an injured joint, damaged-shortened soft tissue, or symptoms simply due to poor posture. What makes MDT a powerful tool is that it provides the patients with home exercises to do routinely throughout the day to enhance their recovery as well as how to self-treat if symptoms were to reoccur.
